Playoff positioning on the line between Bethel Park, Peters Twp. on Friday Night Rivals

PITTSBURGH -- The race for postseason positioning continues in high school football across Western Pennsylvania and this week's C. Harper Auto Group Friday Night Rivals Powered by IGS Energy matchup between Bethel Park and Peters Township features plenty of playoff implications, live at 7 p.m. Friday on 22 the Point.

Peters Township (6-2) and Bethel Park (5-2) enter Week 8 deadlocked with Upper St. Clair and West Allegheny as one-loss teams in the Class 5A Allegheny 8 Conference. This matchup along with the regular season finale results next week will decide the top seeds entering the WPIAL playoffs.

"This will be a classic high school football game between good friends, rivals and neighbors," Bethel Park Head Coach Jeff Metheny tells 22 the Point

"We have great respect for them and we are looking forward to the challenge."

Peters Township enters Week 8 coming off of back-to-back wins over Moon and Chartiers Valley, while Bethel Park comes into the contest riding a three-game winning streak, including a 28-7 win last week over Baldwin.

Head coach T. J. Plack's Indians are riding a wave of momentum from a year ago when they secured their best record in over a decade, finishing 7-4 in Class 6A. Now playing in Class 5A and led by returning all-conference junior running Adrian Williams and a veteran offensive line, Peters Township has already improved on its 2017 mark.

Bethel Park won a conference title last season in Class 6A. Now in 5A, the Black Hawks haven't missed a beat, dropping just two games so far, two tough one-point losses to West Allegheny and Central Catholic.

With a victory this week on Friday Night Rivals, one of these programs will take a major step, laying the groundwork for a deep 2018 postseason run.
